Pinterest users have doubled in their first year in Brazil
The Social network, which has over 100 million users worldwide, seeks partnerships with brands and influencers in the country. The social network has just completed its first year in Brazil, announcing that the number of users and shared content has doubled in the country over the period. Currently, Pinterest has more than 100 million users worldwide.
Developed in the United States in 2010, Pinterest allows users to organize ideas on different topics. Content on the site (which can be a photo, link, or video) is called a “pin” and is organized in folders by the users. Categories such as fashion, beauty, food and decor are amongst the most popular topics – specific categories such as weddings or tattoos, are also very popular but these are quite niche.
Most of Pinterests’ revenue comes from advertising – in 2015, the company introduced ads through “promoted pins” in the US. Following its success in the US, the company has plans to launch promoted pins in the UK, however no date has been set yet.
Brands such as – Tok & Stok and Renner retailers are examples of companies that have become brand partners and have folders that are followed by thousands of people.
According to statements made by Pinterest, Brazil is one of the 10 largest markets. Unlike most social media platforms, Pinterest is not exactly a social network. The focus does not lie on connecting people, rather for people to discover new content.
The main goal in Brazil is to talk to content creators for the platform and those who use Pinterest to find new ideas for their projects. To continue developing and growing in the country, the company is heavily investing in improving user experience and inviting influencers, such as bloggers like Julia Petit and the YouTuber Camila Coelho, to attract more users. The search filters have been adapted for the local Brazilian market, for example, if a Brazilian searches for ‘chocolate cake’, the recipes are filtered according to local tastes and relevancy.
Pinterest need to make a good first impression among users to keep growing. “If you understand the service, you will remain there – and you will also recommend it to friends.”
